This is a part of the 1st US hiway to go coast to coast. From Wash. D.C. to San diego.It passaed thru the Cahaba buggy trail.The bridge was built in 1916.I watched my Dad and his buddies target practice from it in the 60's.Dave is old.

That's a nice chunk of history. Look for Dunn's Bridge, Indiana on Google Maps (near my neck of the woods). It is a large chunk of the 300 ft ferris wheel from the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair. This spring I will get a nice picture of it. You can see the shadow of it on the river from google maps. A farmer bought it when the fair was over and made it a bridge to get his tractors over the Kankakee River. Now that is reinventing the wheel! |

I am surprised that they haven't contacted you to rebuild this thing under the "shovel ready" project list... seems like this would be a high priority... |
