Anyone seriously interested in 2- seater full tube chassis for the razor send me a PM. All DOM tubing chassis designed to accept stock razor suspension, engine and tranny. Wheelbase will be lenghtend so front driveshaft mods are required. Pricing starts at $5,000.00

That would be awesome.. I know the one Clayton build was an amazing machine and climbed the bounty hill like it was nothing.

In addition, it would be nice to see a SXS with a stronger, safer frame.

Would be a lot safer than a stock one. But why DOM its a lot more money and heavier. Vs normal structural 11/2. Just a question not trying to say anythings wrong with it.

CDS or T45 (similar to your 4140), MSA and FIA approved, bolt in rear diagonal/cross available too.

i was thinking the same thing as matt so for what its worth i did a search and found this fwiw

1.5 x .095 dom and hrew are both the same weight but dom is almost twice as strong and right at $1 more per foot

also did a little math, while ive never built a buggy frame im guessing there is around 100ft of 1.5 tubeing which calculates to 17 bs difference between using .095 vs .083, and .120 wall would be 34.3 lbs more than the .095 and would be 51.3 lbs more than .083

Your chromoly specs look a little low, our T45 (similar but forms a bit better and welds better) is about 110-130,000psi tensile. Generally it comes on the upper end at 130,000 with a yield around 100,000psi.

We save around 45lb on a full frame using T45 instead of DOM/CDS.
Not sure what the saving over welded tube would be as we don't use it, as it can split down the side of the weld seam in a big impact.

Some people do use 'steam pipe' which is welded and then run over a mandrel to cold form the weld for pressure vessel use, which is probably similar, usually in .1375" wall thickness for 1.5" and 1.75"OD tubes.
On the one we work on for a friend that ends up with a frame weight of 330lb just in tube/weld/brackets :shock:
So if we made it out of the equivalent in T45, you could expect it to drop in around 160lb for a similar strength frame.
In reality some tubes that get floor contact you would keep similar thickness unless you go to the extreme of foam filling, so probably around the 180-200lb mark. Still a fair weight saving.
