We put a new panel on a box van last week and have some left over .050" gauge aluminum. I was thinking about using this. I know a lot of guys use pzus fasteners (sp?), but does anyone just rivet theirs on to taps like a stock car? I want to put them inside of frame rails.. |

I was planning on adding some to my buggy too. I was going to use insulated "P" style clamps with the rubber on them and some small bolts. That way no mounting tabs necessary on the frame, no paint damage, and no rattle. Cheap and easy. These are what I'm using: http://www.mcmaster.com/#3225t9/=4z2ue7 |

My yellow rail has vinyl ones with snaps like a tonneau cover. 6 years in the woods & I only put 1 hole in em.  I like them so much I was going to make red ones for the new buggy. That was until I found these wraps for IMCA late models on Ebay.  Now I have to go aluminum. I want to rivet as well. Should I tack 1/2"x1/2" angle to the tubing & drill that or did you guys drill the tubing? |

Don't drill the tubing. No matter how tight the rivet seems it will always leak water into the tube. If drilled in the wrong spot it 'could' cause a starting point for a bend or a crack. I've never seen a failure due to a pop rivet hole but there is a first for everything. The rubber insulated tube clamps work real good, I have my Lexan roof, OK umbrella held in place with them. There just a pain if you want to remove the panel for cleaning up. |

i never thought about the insulated clamps, thats not a bad idea... I was just thinking about welding small tabs and drilling them for the pop rivets... I didn't really think it would be necessary to remove the side panels, a hood yes. If I did, just drill the rivets out and pop new ones in quick... |

I used Zues fastners on my Buggy and will never go back to rivets, screws etc. Expensive, You betcha Pain to Install , You Betcha Being able to remove panels easyly to wash and or work on the Buggy, PRICELESS! Now thats Buggy Mastercard right there.

If you use Adel clamps you could use polished stainless buttonheads with brass wingnuts on the back for easy removal & good looks. Im considering this now. Id drill every couple inches all the way around the panel for looks. Only 10 or 12 would bolt to a clamp. The rest would be eye candy. I like eye candy. Im a detail freak.... I really like Dzus fasteners but I now have this picture in my head of a 100 polished buttonheads around the perimeter. OOOOOOOHHH!! That would be worth the time to measure & evenly space them around the panel. |

Has anybody beadrolled their panels? Did you fold over the outer edges & flatten them to smooth them or did you guys leave the sharp edges? |
