Why on some buggies you see the rear beam with about 6 inches sticking out from the frame and on others there is just a plate. This relates to IRS only and I'm also not talking about coil over conversion.
Inquiring minds want to know. Pictures would also help :D

If its the part I'm thinking of, might be because of extended trailing arms.

i believe you are talking about the torsion bar and spring plates

the ones with just a plate have a shorter torsion bar and therefor only the plate which i believe originaly caame in swing axle cars but i have seen people modify the spring plates for irs use when converting a swingaxle to a irs

there were at least 2 maybe even 3 different lengths of irs torsion bars if im not mistaken all of which were longer than the swingaxle which is the part that sticks out past the end of the housing

i hope answers what you were asking

I have only seen three different sizes. Short / Intermediate / Long.

All three have different spring plates that match the torsion bar.

don't remember the fractions but 21+"(swing axle) 24+" (type 3 I think???) and 26-9/16" (IRS)
