I got my first ride in a rail buggy at wellsville at the forbidden zone. I loved it and must have one.I was looking at the Berren 2100.It has a wheel base of 100" would this be the right length for woods riding?I got my hands on a fiberglass dune buggy mounted on a pan it has a 4 rib transmission in it will it work for me?

100 inch is a good length. The shorter the rail the more nimble through the woods. The longer the rail the better it is for hill climbing. At Wellsville I have seen short buggys less than 96 inches and 4 seaters around 110 inches. It all depends on your driving skills. For example, Plumberbill has a 4 seater and he snakes his way through the woods fairly with ease. Some people I ride with have 96 inchers and hit every tree within a 10 foot radius. As far as the fiberglass buggy, if it is a tub buggy like a Manx, and if you ride hard like we do, it probably won't last the weekend.

so did you settle on the 2100? did you accesorize it,if so with what? i bought mine fully welded (4105)

I'm giong to michigan thursday to order my frame.2100 I want the extra bracing and the pick up bed ,tree bars and have it fully welded. Is the stock torsion what I want on the rear? Thanks for all the help

Yeah stock torsions are fine. IRS that is.
Be sure to take a good one with you.
The core torsion prices from Berrien have really gone up.

i would skip the tree bars and make my own. i know there not wide enough for 3x3 trailing arms and v-bar tires.dont know if they would even cover with stock arms. either way your gonna need alot stronger then what berren provides. gonna need a tubing bender or friend that owns one. skip the stock torsion and go with custom torsion if you ride hard. i stripped out a stock torsion riding the tracks/woops at wellsville. dont know if your gonna paint or powdercoat the frame, if you p.c. go with something that can easly be matched with a spray bomb. gonna need a mig welder for all the tabs and xtras that your gonna add.
good luck, its time consuming but well worth it when its finished

That's about the opposite of our experiences.
The custom torsion wasn't thick enough where the bottom tubes were welded into it.
The tubing there ripped out.
Never had a problem with the VW torsions provided they were in good shape to begin with and properly gusseted.
Just another opinion.......

That would be a swing torsion if it is a true '65 pan. (unless converted)
I'd try to find a good IRS torsion.
Therre is no 4 rib tranny unless maybe an IRS car tranny has that style ribbing.
The IRS setup will have exposed axles and CV joints.

And as far as welding it youself, I've seen professional welders struggle getting a chassis put together
straight, square and correctly.
Berrien uses jigs to do that.
IMHO I'd rather have a factory welded chassis.

Stevo, how much would you want for a kingpin frontend?

I ordered my frame with a custom tortion Berrien said that they went to cromemolly material and have had no more tear out problems.The fiberglass body that I have is in excellent shape with nio cracks and has windsheild and rear seat insert it only needs a paint job I will try to add picture and yes will trade for parts I need alot of them. I still also have the tub frame with swing tortion.needs new floor boars welded in it.
