The weak link in a ball joint suspension is the ball joint. As long as they are new breakage should not be a problem especially if you fabricate upper and lower suspension travel stops. They have a larger diameter spindle than the link pin spindle, breakage at the inner bearing area is uncommon compared to the LP spindle.
Both the Link pin and Ball joint spindle steering arms need gusseting.The LP king pin holder also needs a gusset.
A gusset kit is available for the LP suspension. You have to make your own BJ steering arm gussets.
The is a racing LP assembly built by Woods Wheel Works in Phoenix Az. This will handle most anything it hits. Most of the time they will bend before breaking.
The main advantage of the LP is you can get more travel from it once the stock suspension stop is cut off. Kits and complete beams are available. Longer control arms are also available, up to 16" of treavel is obtainable.
An excellent book to buy is Building Bajas and Buggies by Jeff Hibbard. Since it has not been updated in many years it has no info on a arm cars but while save you from the school of hard knocks.
