I have an IRS torsion with the long torsion bars. I have no idea what year car it is from and I can't figure out what grommets I need. I bought knobby inners and smooth outers with the chrome empi caps, and there is too much slop. The outer grommet(the smooth one) seems like it needs to be thicker so the cap will hold it in tight. Anyone have any suggestions?

do you have single or duel spring plates? the empi covers have spacers on the back. and those are for the duel spring plates. if you run single spring plates, you probably have to take those spacers off.

do you have double slatted spring plates on it,or single slatted spring plates.you may have the wrong end cap.i run the long torsion bars on mine with the double slatted plates and i have the 4 cornered gromets on the inside and outside.the spring plate cap on the outside has built in spacers to allow the space for the double slats,if you have this end cap with single spring plates it will not tighten down enough to hold it.chad

I have single plate ones. I see what you are saying about being able to separate the two pieces of the cover.... Now what to do??? Separate the pieces or delay the build more and try to get double spring plates. Thanks

if you have single spring plates and double spring plate covers. You can just grind off the spacers.

Here is a double spring plate cover. See the spacers just knock them off and it should work.

Clamp the spacer securely in a vise.
Wiggle the cover, they will pop right out.
