I have beam clamps from beeline that don't seem to clamp very tight. The beam and clamps are raw with no powder coat or paint. Its not like the beam just slides out but if you wack it with a hammer it will move. The bolts are tight and the flat areas of the clamps are touching. Is this normal before coating? It seems my Berrien clamps had a little space between the flat areas before really tightening the bolts. I made the beam but used the specified tube size. I would have to measure it to remember what size it is but Its around 2" and should match a stock king pin beam. What do you think? If I didn't think I had the possiblilty of bending the beam ends I would just weld it in!

They should be tight on bare metal however they will definatly get tight if you powedercoat both the clamps and the beam. Paint is real thin so they may not if you go that route.

Cut strips of aluminum from a beer can and use them as shims.

Shiming would work. I would 'Pin' the beam in too. Drill through the fixed clamp into the beam and tap it. Do it at all 4 points, won't move.
Make sure the beam is where you want it first

That sounds like a much better fix,i just used the beer can trick out in the woods late one night and forgot about till i flipped the buggy and had to replace the front end.

i put pieces of a innertube in there gets tight then, same beeline

I just ran two small welds on the outside of the upper two clamps so it won't slide.

inbolt the front end and clamp the clamps back togethere and hit it with a bfh in the center of the clamp should tighten it right up. hope this helps

You can just tack weld the "loose" clamps to the beam, that way it won't move around on ya

I'd rather not tack weld it since it gets powder coated it wouldn't get coated under the clamps. I do like the drill tap and bolt method though. I guess a shim really wouldn't hurt either. I'm tempted to try different clamps, maybe order some from Berrien.
