I was running 28mm torsion bars for about 2 seasons. I broke the center section on the torsion so I put air bags on. I sold the 28mm torsion bars to my buddy Krist and after about 2 seasons in his buggy he jumped his buggy getting about 5’ of air off the rear wheels. When it landed it hit more on one side than the other and thought he broke a bar or the torsion was shot because it sat on the ground on one side and not the other. He brought the 4 season old 28mm torsion bars over and I compared them to stock bars. I measured the od of the splines on each bar and they don’t match up. Do you think this would cause his torsion bars to strip/slip in the spline socket in the center of the torsion tube? By the way these are the $140 cheap(latest rage) bars after 4 seasons. Stock..............28mm Large Spline......Large Spline 1.430”............1.400” 36.25mm.........35.50mm Small Spline......Small Spline 1.300”............1.275” 32.95mm.........32.40mm |

I would say yes. when he pulled the torsion out did it have metal material on the splines? |

When I compared the stock with the 28mm the stock splines looked deeper and sharper than the 28mm bars. The 28mm look slightly rounded but you really have to look hard at them side by side (sotck/28mm) to notice anything. |

Same thing happened to a buddy a few years back with the "Latest Cheapest Rage" The splines are the worst copy of vw splines I've seen! I could of done better on my Bridgeport! SwayAway is the only way to go on aftermarket bars. I have been told by Kartec that the torsions with the 2studs sticking down for the front mount had a little softer splines in them,and they didnt recommend putting bars in them with out putting a Swayaway adjuster in 1st. |

That sucks......I put a set of torsion adjusters in the center of the housing on my old rail because it is stronger and if you stripped the splines in it, all you need to do is replace the keys, that way you don't have to worry about changing the whole housing out. I ran SAW 28mm torsion axles with SAW springplates for 2 years and abused them anyway I can and it will not give up. If your center part of the housing is stripped out, just cut it out and weld in the adjusters in place, I think all you need to cut out of the center is 4" (2" from the centerline both ways) and weld it in, it will be the best upgrade for your suspension you will ever have and it will be a lot easier to adjust your rear end if needed to, no more ratchet straps and sledge hammers, just put them in place then tighten up the key bolts and you're set. |

i would agree with firebug -- airbag it , its probably one of the best changes i ever made on my buggy |
