Not quite your normal buggy, though.

I believe you are limited to the Sedan trans due to having to reverse the Ring gear. I dont think this can be done with the Buss series trans. Roy will probaly know for sure.

Only way is to mount the bus tranny upside down.
That presents a whole 'nother set of problems.

I did look at Clayton's turbo VW mid-engine hill shooter one time.
Seems it was using a powerglide to some sort of import car rear end assembly.
On air bags too.

You are right, but when it was turbo VW , it was for blacktop drag racing only.
Now its got a 4.3 in front of that 'glide.
WELL, it did have.
No tellin what will be on there when he gets it out again!!

As far as doing a mid engine with VW stuff, i doubt it would be worth the trouble for a hill climber. If it was better, someone would already be doing it.

He told me it was built as a hill shooter but never did see the dirt.
Can't blame him for that. It is or was a nice car.

Mid engine cars work great on the sand, I've had 'em.
They are heavy on the nose though.
My guess is they won't have enough weight transfer to dirt hill climb.

I say try it. the whole car has to weigh less over all and i would bet that if you figure the front end weight with 3x3 arms on a rear engine or chain drive( yes Curt i figure yours is closer to a mid engine. axle center line under or behind the motor) and the heavy front end weights of a lot of the cars not a whole lot of change.
