What length axles do I need? I was getting ready to order some axles and they have to lengths listed for 3x3 arms, 19-1/4ā and 21-1/4ā. Why are there two lengths? I always thought 19-1/4ā were the correct ones, I want to make sure before I purchase them. My rear suspension. VW torsion 3x3 arms 6 rib (stock location) 930 cvās Thanks, Brad |

The 21 1/4 are probalby for the Microstub application. They are shorter than a standard Type 1 stub axel setup. The micro stub is typicaly used on long travel Sand Buggys. |

19 1/4 is for bus and 3x3arms. 21 1/4 are for sedan trans 3x3 arms It must be a sand thing. |

I was wandering the same thing... i was looking at trying to get more travel out of my 3x3 ... i have the 19 1/4 axles and i was looking at what would be the difference if i go with the longer ones...im trying to get 16 worth of wheel travel if that is possible... 3x3 arms 930 cvs have not set where i want the trans but it is sitting about 3/4" back behind stock mount |

what you should do for maximum axle length is take your cvs and axles out, and lift your trailing arm up so it is parallel with the flange on your tranny so basically, your axle will be level, then you measure from the inside of the flange to the inside of the wheel stub, and minus 1/4 inch this will give you maximum axle length, if its any longer it will bind in that position, but what i also did, was i took an old broom stick, i cut it to the length of the axle i wanted to buy and put it in there just to make sure its not too long. dave |
