Im thinking about running tubes around the four sides of the windshield instead of just doing a crush tube. I feel like it would be stronger and unique. What do you guys think? Posted using the WoodsBuggy Mobile App

it is a little difficult to see in the pic but the windshield usually bends back. Any bars on the same plane as the windshield will not give you much more support. Just my thoughts |

Thats what i drew the two bars on the outside of the roof for, I am making new roof bars because the guy that had the frame before me used fence posts or conduit for them and I need more head room. But while im at it im going to put two outside bars on for more support and more frame to hit the ground rather than my head. Im pretty sure my frame is an old sand frame. The rear of the frame is more narrow than the motor so I have to build a wider engine cage to keep from ripping a head off if I back into a tree. I just thought the extra bracing in the windshield would keep it from bending sideways. iv noticed my tubing is thinner than my brother's frame, he has a berrien warrior chassis. The diagonals in the windshield hoop will do absolutely nothing in a roll over except relocate where the tube bends and in all probability where the tube will break. It will (could) break because of the short distance in between the ends of the diagonals on the upright sections of the windshield hoop The roof bars and roof side bars are fine as long as you allow for enough head room. Only two real ways to minimize the roof from folding over particularly in the windshield area. 1. Make the roof section smaller than the seating area, all the roof bars need to taper in towards the top from the sides and from the front. 2. Decrease the height or cross section of the roof in relation to the overall height of the chassis. Raising the top rail, or elbow rail reduces the cross section of the roof making it much stronger. Look at a NASCAR chassis or a dirt late model. The area where the driver climbs in at through the side window, look how narrow it is in relation to the side. That's why their roofs never cave in or fold over. |

You'd be better off putting an a-pillar support bar in the side to triangulate the screen bars. |

If was you I would be more worried about putting Ina real x brace if your trying to make stuff stronger, I have a old frame and its thin wall and I feel the x brace I added saved my ass the top bar squished around the x brace, the only bars that bent on mine were the old thin wall original pipe |

Ok I already have one cross brace in the back so i just have to finish it out, and as for the roof im going to try to make it as strong as possible, I have a light weight buggy so im not worried about adding weight. That's where both a rear cross and an a-pillar brace would have been a godsend. If you want a windscreen brace in, use one like this on the side:
