 Post subject: Bus torsion

I picked up a new to me 4 seater the other day that has a complete bus torsion in it. Is there anyone who makes arms the take the bus stubs or am I gonna have to switch everything over to type one stuff?

Avery's I think but IMO it was just Easyer and cheaper to switch to type 1 irs on mine

Thanks. I'll look them up. I was kinda trying to keep all of it since it's already set up with disc brakes and everything. Just wanted some longer arms.

The bus trailing arms bend easy. The outer bearing has to be installed after the stub axle goes thru. They are very fragile when installing the stub axle. The cages wad up and bearings go everywhere. Any imperfection after installation and they will last about 5 rides. All you can get is Chinese cheese anyway. The only escape is $132/4 TAPPERED bearings from MSC. But you have to fab a wall. You cannot add bearings like a type 1 can. Go IRS with type 3 torsion bars. AND a bus torsion is HEEAAVVYY!! Everything I do know, I wasted time and money to find out the hard way. I'd only suggest bus torsion for baby chains because the fat stub axle and fat torsion bars are ideal.

I had heard that they bend easy. I know the torsion is heavier than a car but don't want to tear it all the way apart at this time to change it out. It's a got a Honda v6 and a 6 rib so it's already heavy from the get go. So Passat can u tell me how much bigger the bus arms are compared to stock car arms? I've heard that they are about a 2x3 compared to a car arm. Reason I'm asking is I don't want to order a 2x3 arm and end up sitting just like I am now when I should of actually ordered a 3x5 arm to get the ride and wheel positioning that I want. How that makes sense.

Mine I run stock cars arms on bus torsion with bus lenth axles

Yeah I cut down my spring plates bolted on my car trailing arms eyeballed the center pivot and welded on new ones
