Lookin to rebuild the front of my rail over winter. The question I have is the bottom tube bends slightly up on both sides, it seems uniform as far as bend. I have not seen this yet on any other rail but I have only been into the about 4 years.

I plan on chopping the front off at the forward most down bar and run the bottom tube straight with some slugs and plug welds and redo the top tube with a new bend to clear the tie rod, also my beam is tilted forward a few degrees.

If you look close the tie rod is bent and actually rubbed a hole in the bottom of the top bar.

I'm not sure why they did that on the older frames. But there's several buggies I ride with that are like that.

No, that's not right, the bottom frame rails should be straight not bent up. The beam should lean back at the top about 8 degree. Your going to need to cut the frame rails further back than the last upright. And if there is no upper frame rail support it will bend again. I would suggest building the frame like this. Instead of welding the beam in, use clamps. I welded this beam in because it is one of my extreme duty beams, almost impossible to bend.

Does your frame have diagonal supports on the upper frame rail? If not,it should. I'm referring to the tubes that start at the bottom of the windshield frame and go down towards the center of the beam.

That reinforcement will stop the frame rails from bending.

Psycho, that's because there is no upper frame bracing.

Those old champion frames was made that way. They would break and flex bad if you was rough on your buggy. Do what mike said. Put your bottoms straight out then put your top bar out straight to your bumper and it will be a lot stronger than bending your top tube down. Chad :mrgreen:

This is what I have and what I also plan to do in addition to rebuilding the front as I described earlier. Eliminating the black and add the green.

I talked to a guy once that stadium raced back in the day, he said it help the handle better...... Idk sounded reasonable.

Unless you need it for mounting something on, that horizontal bar you're going to add is doing nothing really.

I would add another vertical support right behind the beam clamps, it helps to reduce flex on the frame and share the load.
