Hey yall, i have a dunebuggy and my coil overs are way to soft wanted to see what yall think would be right coil tensions, il post pics with weight and stuff       Front 0 degrees tilt Rear have 11 degrees tilt Rears have 300 lb top and 350 bottom springs Fronts have 150 top and 200 bottom

http://f-o-a.com/calculator.php For starters why do you say they are too light? What are you doing with the buggy? High speed or trail riding? Where are you from? What valving are the shocks? Are those weights with you and a passenger and all of the gear you normally ride with? |

They bottom out super easy. I do high speed trail riding, hill climbing, and jumping. im from fort worth tx i have no idea what the valing is( i bought this buggy with these shocks already on it, then reworked most the buggy) the weight total is 2300lb Front 0 degrees tilt Rear have 11 degrees tilt Rears have 300 lb top and 350 bottom springs Fronts have 150 top and 200 bottom also the people that i have talked to said leave the valving alone and just change override spring, it rides fine when normal driveing, but as soon as i start getting rough with it , it is way to soft how much can valving change the ride ? also iv heard that the over ride spring is only suposto be like 50lb higher than running spring is this true and why ? |

Whoa you have alot going on here. What is "degrees of tilt" ? How old are the shocks and have they been rebuilt recently? Maybe you listed it but what is the spring rate for the rears? The front spring rates seem a little light. Does the car pack or just bottom out and hit the stops at full jouce? Does the car work better at one end or the other , meaning front worse or back worse? |

Ok I understand "tilt" or angle of shock . I also see the spring rates for the rear. I think you are ok with the rear spring rates as long as you are not coil bound and happy with the ride hieght. 300 over 350 is what I run , but I have a triple bypass also. You should still be ok with the right valving. Like I said the front springs seem light maybe ok for slow speeds but too soft for high speeds. I would take the shocks apart and see what the valving is. The standard buggy valving is normally 40/60 for the fronts and 40/80 for the rears. Some times the valving numbers are scribed on the shock, look around for these. You may have to take the springs off to see them. This will tell you what they had in them originally may not be whats in them now. |

Thanks for the replys guys!! I have no idea the age of the shocks.  i think the rears are alright, altho my buddy says they are a little light for jumping, but the front are way to soft, (for example; if im creaping down a steep hill they ride on the bump stops) also do i have to run them at max air psi ? (nitrogen)....... i would like to be able to stand the car up and slam the front down and not bottom out to badly. What does the valving numbers mean ? |

I run 400 over 500 on the front of my race buggy which is lighter than yours on that end. That's the biggest thing I see. lower you secondary ring on the rear shocks a little and see if that helps with the bottoming. |

my rear springs are the same length and I believe about 100lbs heavier than the primary springs. |

One issue I see is the front springs are in the wrong location as the top should be the short one. Also your springs are too light for the weight of the buggy. My buggy is close to the weight of yours and I am running 250/350 front and 400/550 rear. As Racebug stated the cross over collars play a very important roll in dual rate springs. You want the calculated spring rate to take care of the small bumps and then you want it to transfer to the higher rate of the lower spring for the big hits. |

lngtrvl2332 There are too many variables.Mounting point are critical. Or at least with CD .A one inch Variation can be 50lb. So I don't know about some one setting one up over the phone.JUST SAYING

Hope you figure out by the time I get the rest of the front end from you mike, sure would be nice to not have to buy expensive coilovers or airshocks for my new frontend |

Mountings and arm lengths, etc, are completely different on ours, so I can't directly compare, but I'm running ~100lb/inch front wheel rate and 200lb/inch rear atm. Valving isn't a standard Fox stack, but it's somewhere close to a 70/80 stack up front and 60/100 at the rear (twin dampers at the rear) |

Hung the corner from a scale and have 620 lbs. put all the info in the calculator and looks like I'm going with 400/550. Gonna sleep on it and call in the order tomorrow. Btw all the pics are too large to post I'll figure that out later. |
