I'm currently looking for extended trailing arms for my new project. What are the pros and cons of 2x3s and 3x3s? I'm not wanting to go crazy on them just yet. I also am wondering about axles for both of them. Any help would be great.

Pro's
2x3's use bus axles.
3x3's = more suspension travel.

Con's
3x3 axles cost more.
3x3's make the buggy 2 inches wider.

How much abuse will the bus axle take? I've got a stock 1600dp and a 3 rib. I'm probably gonna run a 33" mud tire not sure which one yet.

They will take a lot. I run them with a 2165 stoker with dual delorttos 3 rib just went from 36 to 35 inch tires and flip it half the time I ride. I been running the same pair for 10+ years and no problems with them

My thoughts are longer axles give you more travel. Think of it in extremes. If the axle was 20 feet long versus a axle 1 foot long with the same cv joint angle. The 3x3 axles are longer than the 2x3 axles. The cv joint is the limiting factor.

I didn't realize u could run that big of a tire w 2x3s. I know there a lot more to it with wheel offset and brakes but just didn't realize u could go so big. That's got me leaning more towards 2x3s now. Lol

Well I have a single spring plate off a swingaxle cut down to fit my 2x3 so it doesn't have the nub sticking out like what's on the IRS spring plate

I'm not sure about cutting the nub off but If I'm not wrong with 2x3 or 3x3s you can run up to 36 inch tires a lot of people around here run 36 buckshots

I run 36 inch buckshots on my 2 seater with 2x3s and have about an inch between the tire and the stob.
