VW buggy mostly used on gravel roads and trails, stock front end, seems a bit stiff, I weigh 180 and as I stand on the front end it has no movement, removed the shock and now as I stand on the front it moves about an inch, should I adjust the torsion? is this a difficult task? Thanks |

That's way to stiff are you using ball joint or king pin? |

Only way to adjust a stock front beam is to weld in an adjuster. The front beam has a pack of springs in each tube. You can pull out 1 or 2 springs to make it softer. If you pull any springs make sure you remove the same amount from the top and bottom tube. Make sure your beam bearings/bushings aren't bound up and link pins aren't bound up stopping it from moving first. |

I am facing the same situation, I was considering removing the bottom set of springs, putting in a through rod in from side to side and weld in an adjuster to the set of springs on the top. What is everyone's opinion on witch is better, or has anyone done something different.... besides king pin/coil over. |

Sounds like something is bound up. Take the link pins out and make sure everything is moving easy, then move on to the beam bushings. The springs in a kingpin beam are supposed to be much weaker than balljoint |

AS above, check it's not binding from the nuts being too tight, etc, it's very easy to put way too much friction into a linkpin front end. |

I removed the shocks and lubed the front end, under it's own weight the front drops about an inch, when I push down it goes about 4 inches, the current no name shocks are difficult to push down with the same resistance to extend. I have KYB gas adjust in the rear with a fair amount of upward pressure, do you think putting KYB gas adjust on the front would be too stiff? |

Use a non gas charged shock. Gas filled is ok just not gas charged or PRESURISED! Your ride will be way more comfy |

The gas charge is not the issue, the valving is. |

Do you have a suggestion on front shocks, valving? |

Let a little air out of your tires not enough to lower the buggy and let 'er rip tater chip.As time goes by you will wish you had not of softened anything up.Enjoy your ground clearance.KYB shocks are stupid.Hard lift will make your steering kick back then you will hate that and need a dampner. |
