Why couldn't you just cut your stock arms right in the center and use solid round stock to fit inside the arms? Extend them 4"-6" weld em up and go. Sounds so simple. Too simple? |

Hey Dave, My only concern would be the strength of the of the stock arms with the extensions. Probably would have to add a bar for strength so it won't bend under stresses. I hope I am understanding your question right. Good luck my friend. The wild kids |

You can take a stock arm and cut it and splice it back together with a piece of thick wall tubing, weld it up and make it longer all at the same time. It has been done hundreds of times. It works fine. The only thing you need to make sure of is when you weld it back together that it is straight. It helps to build a solid fixture for holding it while you weld it. Roy |

That's exactly how mine, and other guys' I ride with, are made. After you cut the arm in half you grind the cut ends down to almost a point to allow for the weld to fill in, put a piece of solid bar between the ends and weld it up, then you lay strips of plate down the outside of the arms and weld it all up. You need a jig to keep everything lined up, of course. And dont even try it with a low amp mig, unless you know something I dont. (Which is EXTREMELY possible!!) Seen 'em take some tough licks and hold up. If welded good, you'll waylay a rim before you hurt the arms, or the dropped spindles we made. Maybe just been lucky so far! Larry |

Thanks guys, That's exactly what I was talking about. I keep reading about how expensive the tweed arms are and I'm thinking this can't be so hard. I knew if I thought of it hundreds or thousands of you guys have been doing it for years! LoL |
