What size is the factory hole for the tie rod on a kingpin spindle.. I am trying to keep cost down and puchased a used rack and pinion and it has the tie rods already with 3/4 heims on both ends and would like to know if the holes can be drilled out to this size or am I going to need to buy a set of combo spindles or is there another way to do this correctly?

I do not think you can drill the spindles out that much. If you look on the spindle, you will not have enough material left after you drill them out

That is what I thought but wanted to be sure. What is the best way to do it with heims on the rack and either tie rod or 1/2 heim on spindles if it is possible. I have seen several doing heims on the tie rods since they are at more of angles usually and int ends on the rack so it would seem like there is a way to do it correctly my way also.

Take some 1/2 inch bar stock and make 2 2x2 inch squares. Drill them out to the same outside diameter as the ends of the spindles. Then slot them as needed for the arms and weld them on. You can cut and grind them to a round shape before or after whichever seems easier, then drill for the 3/4 heims. Then I would make 2 1/4 inch stips that go down the arms to brace them 90 deg to each other. It should be plenty strong.

You can take a heim and use a 5/8 or a 1/2 misalignment. Problem Solved

Mine have 5/8 misalinment spacers, still not much material if they were stock spindles.

I agree I ran 5/8 heim with 1/2 " misalignment for years without any problems.
