I bent a balljoint spindle spud in the middle of the spud where the taper is that i had welded onto my king pin spindle. Now, my question is, would it be unwise to heat my spud up with a torch after I weld it on and quench it with oil to prevent this from bending? I'm not sure of the material, I bought them from Jim's Custom VW, and he had them made, they are NOT empi spuds. So, I assume they are most likely a mild steel. Any input on this before I weld it on tonight? And yes, my weld held fine, and it did not bend near the weld, for everyone that is going to question that.

DONT DO IT. with out knowing what the spindle is made of you might get them too hard and they will snap ! you want them a little soft but strong . you cant change the strength of the steel by hardening it
