I have been running a stock width beam for many years, however I am preparing to upgrade my front suspension and I need to decide whether to go with stock width or +6. My concern is being too wide for tight trails with the +6 . Please give any pros or cons that you guys have observed with both stock and +6 . Also with rear suspension, I have the same concern with the 3x3 trailing arms. I heard of some guys on the samba running stock x 3. How do you guys think these would work ? Thanks, Tom

Bunch of guys here run the +6" front beam without issue. What it actually does is put the front tires into the track of the rear tires some. You shouldn't have any problems with it.
As far as rear goes I have 4 wider 5 longer arms, the offset on the wheel will be 5" making my rear track width around 86", narrower than some with 3x3 arms and a 2" offset wheel.

i also run 4x5 arms out back but my front is 8" wider than stock, i think mine is 82" wide in the rear cuz of the skinny tires i run but so far no trouble..like mike said, its still narrower than a 3x3 with a wide tire on deep dish rims. i guess more than anything it depends on the trails you ride.

I went with a Stock width.. thinking I wanted to me more narrow in the woods. However, the reality is that the rear is much wider than the front.

If I could do it again, I would go with a 6 inch wider. Currently, My front tires rub on my frame and limit my turning radius.

Personally, after cursing the +6 beam on the front of ours all winter, I'd go with wider arms rather than a wider beam, you can run more offset on the wheels then without hitting the beam.

I have only been to one place out of 8 that I wouldnt want a wide front beam. If you are not on real tight trails go for it.

The smaller the offset , the more you push the wheel away from the hub the more feed back you WILL get. To the point it will rip the steering wheel from your hands and if you wrap your thumbs around the wheel snap, crackle and pop.

Wrong offset will cause the wheel to rip out of your hands . I'm no expert but I don't think wider arms would cause it too.

I have been running the 6" wider beam with 1-1/2" wider arms and I have hardly any issues with trail clearance, if I can't fit, I make me a new path around the spot I can't get through, I even hit a couple of trees that causes my buggy to be down for some time, but I like the stability it offers when I was sideways a few times on some steep hills, it is all about what you want, like most of the guys said, your rear tires is the widest point of the buggy anyhow besides the treebars, so the front end shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I have been running a wider beem for years without any troubles. A wider beem will also help you get more suspension travel. Your tie rods hitting the bottom tube is usually what limits your down travel, and by making the beem wider you move the outter tie rod end out further without changing the angle allowing your suspension to drop more.

Run the 6" wider beam. It really does not make much of a difference in tight trails and gives you better stability and a larger foot print for those narly off cambers.

Thanks for all the replies. Still undecided but leaning toward the + 6 beam. Mickey Mouse, do you have wider arms? If I were to elect to go with extended arms in addition to the +6 beam I would at least be +8 in comparison to stock right ? The reason for my concern is I ride a significant amount of tight fire trails, and utv trails. Once again thanks for all for the advice; it is appreciated.

If you really ride tight trails a wider front will slow you down, no tree bars for the fronts. The rears will bounce off the tree bars and line up, the fronts wont. But if they aren't real tight the wider beam is better for all the reasons peviously stated. I run alot of tight trails and wouldnt run a wide beam because it would make it harder to line up on tight turns. But most places i run besides haspin i would rather have a wide beam.

That wider beam helps the car turn though, so it could stop you hitting the trees to start with

Sorry Mike, forgot you only ride Wellsville. When you are shooting an 8 foot gap at a 45 deg angle its alot easier to get the front in with it narrow. The back does fine with tree bars and cutters. But my tree bars never hit anything but rocks at wellsville, lol. Damn bill and ody.

I run a 8 in. Over beam and 5x7 rear arms. It's great for wheel travel and stability when side hilling and climbing. I've never had any problems in Ohio or Kentucky

Only place I have been I wouldnt want a wide beam is Haspin. Anyplace else I have been to I would go wider, just my $.02
