so I have a -1/4 to -7/32 gap between the upper and the lower arm in the front...

aka the lower arm is farther out...making the bottom of the tire stick out past the top...

so what are my options...

and how to take car of this...

i know shims are an answer but where do i shim and do i shim the lower and the top or just the top to get to where i need it?

the car will be driven a majority of the time as a daily driver to work so handling on the road is key!!!

King pin arms (top and bottom) are different. Not counting the shock mount. The bottom arm is wider than the top. The problem may just be shims.

so im just wandering that if i add the correct shims if it would make the tire square aka follow the book for placement of the shims on the right sides of the link pins

or

just shim the top???

im assuming that the book would be the best idea...

that is correct on the bottom arm sticks out further than the top and i would guess that the 3" drop spindles would "exaggerate" that so im thinking you should use the book as a "guideline" but that ultimately you will have to "play" with the shims to get the correct

You want at least 2 shims on both sides of the link. Then shim the top to take up the gap. If you Install more or less then needed you will put your link pins in a bind and wear them out quick or possibly break or bend them.

Thanks guys yeah after I posted about the problem I started to read on my own and found basically what everybody is suggesting!

Now trying to find shims for less than 1 dollar each

You dont want to use shims to correct a problem. Use them to "fill in the gap". If you have to pull the spindle straight by tightening the king pins, you will end up breaking one! if its bent, then it needs to be fixed first.

On a similar note, when i was running Tweeds design Arms and Spindles, I experienced a large gap on both sides and made thick washers to install on the thrust side of the pivot point at the beam. This allowed me to use less shims.

everything is all new parts...from the original owner...they were only used for mocking up ...aka he ran out of money before he finished and i got the parts...

I have if i convert it right 6mm of neg. camber...this would mean that i would need the right amount of shims based on the chart in a book that i got from the good ole LIB...baja bugs and buggies

You can also use grade8 sae washers to get it right along with the shims. it seems the shims pound out in the whoops and ruts washers help this alot.
