 Post subject: Stock bug steering box

Never had one apart before, how do you adjust one that has jumped gears? Any special tricks?

One short ride on a brand new box, bumped a tree pretty hard and now it won't turn left :evil:

i tryed takin one apart with no success, just made a big mess, i have three of em that are broke! there has to be a way to take them apart, but then where would you get the part or parts to fix it! im definately gonna follow this one till someone has the answer, but i think you may have allready got the correct answer, its broke :roll:

If you are having this problem often, you may look at a stronger box from a modern car. It may take a while to get it setup, but should outlast the buggy after that. Sorry to steal the thread.

Yup, Chevy Cavalier/Sunfire rack and Honda pump = power steering. Just havn't done it yet.

A friend mentioned something about pressing out the bottom gear from inside, rotating and pressing back in. Anyone done this?
Just trying to repair a brand new box with about 4 miles on it that has jumped some teeth
