I have a friend who is looking to buy a rack for his buggy. I have been preaching to him about my Saco, but want to give him some more input than just my experiance with mine. Are there better racks, for less money? Anyone use a Wright place rack? HD rack, who makes th HD? He would rather spend the extra money and buy one rack rather than replacing or rebuilding a cheeper one a couple of times. I know the sacos can be rebuilt, can any of the other ones out there? Thanks, for your input.

Danny

I have a wright rack on my race buggy, and love it! it is every bit as good as the saco, but they dont make 'em anymore. with some work, you can make the "HD rack" hold up by adding more bolts, lock titing everthing and being carful with it, but most of the guys I know with them end up buying a Saco later. You can also get the Saco with a 1.5:1 ratio insted of the 1:1 ratio of the "HD" rack.

SACO racks are the intermediate Rack to buy. For the average guy they are a decent. I will say however that their quality and Customer service has gone in the shitter. I ordered a Magnum for my Buggy and it had unacceptable gearlash for a brand new unit. I sent it back to them and when I got it back the play was gone however it was really stiff on one end of the stroke and really loose on the other end. I requested a replacement and when I got it it had an 1/8" of fore and aft play in it. I am currently using it as i did not have time to send it back before a ride. I will be sending it back to them at the end of the season for repair. I currently have 4 rides on it. So buyer beware. For the serious offroader the Howe Diablo is the way to go however they are not cheap. Not nessasary for the average weight buggy however thought I would throw it out there as an option.

Not a rack, but hard to beat a chevy truck box for price or strength. I got 2 of them for $25 each. They are heavy however, but not sure how much heaver then a good rack and tourque converter or whatever it is you add. Nice thing is with some simple measurements you can figure out what length pitman arm to make to adjust the steering ratio to what ever you want. Not for everyone, but all the guys I know running them seem very happy with them.
