Just bought a buggy with drum brakes and want to change to a disc W/ E brake kit. It is titled a 1973, but how do I know that the rear half IS a 73 IRS ? I know it has IRS....just so you know that. |

I might be wrong but I do not think it matters. Anything between a 68 and a 73 should work. You will see different years from the vendors but I think it only changes the length of the e-brake cable. Why are you using an e-brake? I only ask because you are very limited on your brake options if you want an e-brake. Most of the e-brake options will only give you a single piston caliper and a single piston caliper is not strong enough to stop a 33 inch tire going down a decent hill or hold the buggy on a hill if you need to back down. If you must have an e-brake to be street legal, I would see if a Line Lock would work. Then you can buy a good set of disc brakes with 4 pistons. I really like Jamar but most people use Willwood. Good Luck. |

A '73 tranny mount has 3 horizontal bolts to the trans and 2 vertical to the frame. I believe you are right MickyMouse about the length which shouldn't matter for a rail. It looks like this: |

Southern Buggies is one of the site sponsors and is always a great place to start. Tim will not steer you wrong. He knows everything about buggies and will always help out.

I don't know for sure. Looks like it has been modified and welded to the frame which appears to be square thus changes the mounting mounts. I just installed my e brakes on my 73 torsion. The cables are too long which made me use a cable shortening kit. |

Ok, so my next question is, what do I buy a rear brake kit for (year?) also what is a good kit to buy that is more than a one piston caliper without breaking the bank |

As far as linelock for e-brake. Ohio law says it has to be a MECHANICALY operated brake so any hydraulic operation of e-brake won't pass an inspection. The single piston caliper econo brake kits with e-bk would'nt stop a go cart safely |

Do I just tell them I need a kit for a Pre 73? also does yours have an E brake? Should I go with 4 lug or 5 ? |

If the law requires a mechanical brake, you might need to use the single piston. However, I would just leave your drum brakes rather than going to a single piston caliper. Maybe you can wait to get it inspected and then change the brakes. |

I started out with the econo brake kit with e-bk.(first pic) These sucked so i bought wilwood calipers from summit. They offer them for different rotor thicknesses. I'm using the same rotors that came with the original kit i bought but made my brackets to bolt wilwood calipers.(second pic) ![]()
