I hope this helps out Jay. The way I have it mounted, it is pretty solid. If you have any questions, let me know.

WOW. Thanks for the video dave! appreciate that, BUT now i dont wanna post pics of mine cuz it aint gonna be anywhere near as nice as your set up haha Ima start on it tomorrow, Going to mount the rack and get it working right without the pump first. then move to stage 2.and im going to make a double pulley for the alternator and try that first. With the pump mounted to the frame with a pivot and a slide mount Its gonna be ugly lookin But its gonna work damnit! Ill get some pics of what i do tomorrow. thanks again.

hey jayrod ive got a power steering setup you may want to check out if you want. i used a geo tracker pump and box.the pump bracket i made is a 100% bolt on,no mods to your engine or anything.it also uses the tracker waterpump modified a bit to run the pump off the crank.there 3 of us running this setup so far and it works awesome.you also run stock length vw tie rods and the tracker waterpump belt.you can built the whole setup for under $200 with hoses and fittings.its a very clean nice looking setup. i saved all my templates if you want to borrow them ,ive been planning on making some of the brackets to sell but im waiting for a friend to get his plasma table setup. if you want to look at mine i live in brimfield just let me know.

before you mount the rack you may want to talk to kyle martin on here he changed from a rack like that to a box last summer and loves it.the tracker box isnt much heavier or bigger than a stock vw. they steer much quicker too.i know the setup is much stronger than a gm rack i have a buddy that ran one on a sami with 35" boggers and a 4.3 with no probs.plus if you ever do have a problem you can just unbolt it and bolt on a stock vw box.

I got everything mounted today, made the mount so that i can put the rack on the top of it or the bottom which moves it forward and up or back and down if i need to . Also make my own tierods ended up only bein 8inches long sleeved 3 different ways to convert everything with an old tie rod welded inside for the threads. Steering should be quick 2 turns lock to lock. I gotta make stops though. It turns the wheels so far that the tierod lines up with the spindle and flips the other way lol But it seems very smooth and easy to turn . Ima finish it up today and hopefully get to test it out . I got some pics ill try to get posted.

Jayrod,

You have a picture of the rack mounted? My brother had a rack that was mounted to far back and would do the same thing. If he jumped his buggy the wheels would tow all the way out and wedge into the frame. He would have to get out and kick them back to normal or dive it like a plow.

I got it all bolted on now and with everything tightend down good it doesnt do it by just turning the wheel all the way now. So im pretty sure putting a vertical bar in the frame to stop the tierod if it goes to far will solve the problem. Brad, I think i see what your saying, but theres no way mine will flip sideways unless its cranked hard right or left and there is a good amount of pressure on the wheel. Ill try to post pics of it later today. I did drive it around the yard to test it out, everything seems great nice turning radius and the ease of turning is awesome thats with no power steering. Only have like $40 in everything, so i think ima find another rack, make another set of tie rods etc.. so that if something gets tweeked or bent all i have to do is bolt the other unit right on. But on the next setup im going to use a beefier tierod end. ALSO I found a crack in my frame where the torsion etc...meets. it has 2 triangular pieces of 1/4 flat stock bout 4inches on each side welded there for support so do I juss weld the crack? or cut a piece of tubing and weld over top of the area

the tierods are almost straight inline with the rack where i have it now. Seems to work great as of now so im not worried about it.

From my experiences the inner tie rods need to be as near the beam as possible,,or it will steer you instead of you steering it. But that's just for hard trail riding and stuff.

Jay these guys are right. Nearest to the beam you can get or the bumb steer will kill you. I learned the hard way.

So you know mine is not perfect , i noticed what i would call torque steer in the front when i approach a hill sideways and flex one side up the steering wheel will pull real hard and try to spin out of my hands ! i run a gearbox on mine and hope when i run the power to it it will not be so bad . does anyone expeirence this out of their setup ?
