ok, I'm a bit new, and I've got a buggy with quite the odd front beam. They used piston rods for the vertical supports. Yep, I said piston rods. See pic.

Wondering if this was done because they broke something, or was it because they wanted to put a bj beam onto a link pin front? It seems like bj spacing between the tubes, but I could be wrong. Also the towers are not even, it seems one broke off, and got welded back on, but at a crap angle. So I'm looking at buying a link pin front. There's a drum to drum front near me for cheap, but then i guess I'd need new wheels too. No biggy I guess. I'm thinking if the buggy is actually spaced for bj, I can just cot of the top brackes, and weld extensions on there to close the gap?

And out back, it's 2 shocks, and there were some crappy monroe air shocks. I plan on running airbags in the back and some 3x3 arms and torsion eliminators, then redo the shock mounting to double shear, and replace the old worn shocks. I will be putting in an ecotec soon, and am wondering what shocks to go with along with an airbag setup for the rear.

any help is welcome. thanks. The teardown for the ecotec will begin soon. Still looking for the 091 and adapter and gathering info.

Looks like they had a rotted beam and did this as a quick repair. I don't know what to think. wow. I'd get the other front end and do it. :?

LOL :D

Thanks for the responses. I knew it was kinda unique when I saw it. It's got a title from 1981, so it would seem as though it's been around for a while. Nice thing about AZ though, is the lack of rust!

It's almost like it was meant to be though lol. I already have the ecotec, and Don's bus box is close by.

Just looking at the ball joints. Top down, bottom up. Can some one confirm if that is a 181 thing front beam? Or have I got my facts wrong? If it is a thing front, it is the best of the ball joint beams.

I'm pretty sure that the Thing ball joints both load from the top like a bus.

Firebug is right about that.

Keeping my eyes out for a nice link pin beam to swap over to.
