I was going offroad but today was a no burn day which also means a no off road day in Maricopa County. Last time offroaders were being turned away from Table Mesa. They can issue fines. So it turned into a work day.
Last time out it started pinging under a heavy load in 3/4 gears and idling funny. Time to get out the tach and dwell meter. Besides the point gap being off the distributor had gone bad.
Time to find another 009 or see if I have an 010 in my pile. It is amazing this cam will let the engine idle at 500 rpms. It does idle best at 700 rpm or more.
It is hard to see but total timing is set at 30 degrees and TDC at idle.

The idle ended up at 700 rpms dwell was 48 and it idled and accelerated smoothly.

The cap is not falling far again. It ended up on top of the transaxle after a rough section of whoops.

While it had not loosened in a long time I replaced the air filter wing nut with a self locking one and saftey wired it.

Note how the rear cage has moved up since November. I chained it to an anchor and moved it back in place. The upper mounts were poorly choosen in a hurry to fit dual carbs. They are mounted to a one inch tube that used to hold one end of the fuel tank mount.

I'm considering removing the existing two upper rear engine cage bars and adding two from the top of the drivers hoop to the rear cage next time it is apart.
I don't know how to add lines to a picture so I laid a pipe to show where it may go. I need to install a set of duals to check for clearance.

I am also considering a winch. This is just a trailer winch but I wanted to get some ideas for making it removable to swap from front to rear.

I also bought a mirror for the passenger side.

I may head out to a different county tommorow.

I am also planning a dash mount for the camera.

I tried to stimulate the economy this year and buy sliders and a wrap around tube bumper

http://www.demello-offroad.com//catalog ... d166a29312

But they couldnt make a reasonable ship date. So it bought some more equiptment and built my own.
I had them shot blasted then Linex sprayed. This got the local economy stimulated.

On the Winch I used a 2" reese hitch square tube on the front and rear with a pin to hold it in place. I used 50 amp
tow motor battery plugs for the quick disconnects.

The winch is stored in the front on top in a 2" square tube and when need it slides into the front of the skid plate

The rear is similar with out storage.

My idea is the same for the rear. I really want to try to hide the winch behind the front beam.
