Saturday and Sunday TRAL (http://www.tontorecreationalliance.org) did our first core volunteer joint training with the USFS. The USFS graciously lent us use of an old 1940s ranger station that is now used as a base for USFS fire fighters. It is at the end of a long gated road surrounded by private cattle ranches and USFS land.
The next two views were from we were leaving today.

The mine is at 4900 ft and a few of weeks ago it snowed hard. Most of it was gone.

David in the red races off road and has won his class in the Baja 1000. His GPS showed at one point on the run to the mine he hit 75 mpg. My GPS only showed 55 mph.

Eight vehicles started to the mine. Only David, Rich and I made it.

Quote"those are beautiful pics. i would love to ride places like that. how far did you travel to get to the mine? what happened to the others that didn't make it? mechanical problems?"

It is about 55 miles from my house. As for the others most of it was lack of experience, as for the banshee rider lots of bragging and cash does still does not mean you can bypass paying your dues. : By the time I was his age I had racked up countless hours riding mini bikes, Vespas, dirt bikes and ATVs offroad.). Most weekends I would ride from sun up to sun down. Come to think of it I still do. I'm pretty sure unless the Banshee was radically ported for straight line racing I could of drove it to the mine.

That is too cool! I 've explored old mines around here in the past. A man asked me once if I'd like to be a miner and I said,"Heck no,Cause they don't sell beer to miners" :(

just wondering how perrib posted a reply to my post under my screen name (see above ^^^^^^)

I am also wondering. I hit the quote button, wrote my comment and posted it before I realized what happened.

TRUE STORY!back in '02 the Fultondale woods caught on fire. I actually thought I was the only one on the planet that was fighting it. I saw a small single fire and put it out , saw another, put it out , SAW another put it out!Saw another and I was on my hands and knees flinging dirt on it. Could not see 3 feet, the smoke was so thick. Then ,out of no where a pair of work boots walked up. I was stunned. I looked up and a guy with a mask, an oil burner and a US Forestry suit said , "I just set that". We will handle the fire." I felt like a J.A.. I stood up , brushed my clothes off and left.I came out of the woods and saw men, trucks, tractors and radios. That was a great day! :)

Hi Perrib,

If so how was it.
