First recovery of the new year and it was a long rough ride. Joe picked me up at 5 am yesterday and we got back to my house at 3 am. Last Thurday around midnight a lifted Ford F 150 was retrieving a broken rental UTV from the trail from Box Canyon to Red Mountain Mine trail it apears to have sprung a fuel leak while backing up to the UTV and the ignited fuel trail set the UTV on fire and on a rock hill both burned to the ground. An employee and his girl friend called 911. Cell reception is real spotty out there so they were lucky and the signal fire led a Sheriff's Helicopter right to them. It is been in the 20s-50s out there. The walk out is a 10-15 mile walk over treacherous terrain. We picked the easy way in see the river crossing.
The rock crawler made it up. The bank kept giving way to the weight of Joes truck we were going to winch it up but on the other side the water had made a 70 foot depression 10 feet deep that due to the trees theToySuki could just barely get around. Now it is noon time and we are only 4 miles away. We decided to trailer the rock crawler to Highway 177 and take the Battle Az trail in at 5 pm we were right back at the water crossing. We left one trailer there and loaded the UTV on the other and decided on the shortest but roughest ride out through box Canyon. We stll had to return to 177 to get the other truck. These are pictures from the second try. Tommorow were trying for the Ford.

This was a long one. As was the UTV on Tuesday. This time to save a couple of hours we crossed the river on the trip in and out.

This time the recovery truck hydrolocked. We unhooked the trailer and winched over the truck pulled the plugs and then turned it around and winched over the trailer.

If the owner does not remove it depending where it is AZ State Trust Lands, BLM and USFS remove it for your for $15,000 and up. They consider it hazardous waste.

Yesterday I took the rail and Joe out to scout the next recovery.

This one will need to be winched up 300 plus feet.

Im hoping we can get it started and open up windshield enough to be able to use the Toyos own power to help get it back up the hill.

This was very bad for the driver, eight weeks later and he is still in the hospital. He was winching up a sand rail when the rail pulled the Toyo down the hill. The Toyo had been converted to a straight axle with front rear lockers and a double transfer case. The driver also was very experienced. I believe he thought the rail was light enough that he did not need to use a tree or other vehicle as an anchor and was sitting on the seat without a seat belt. This is a very nasty hill last two times we were there all but the two vehicles that were locked front and rear had to be winched up. Both times we were there we were anchored to a tree. Thieves stole the winch, front shocks, driver rear tire, stereo system, cb, onboard air, battery. We are going to try to open up the windshield and replace the battery, three tires and broken distributor cap to use the Toyo's power to help with winching it up the hill.
