This is not actually a "Holiday" but I DID want to say how proud my husband and I are of our young'un, Jacob Meadows. He graduated from Basic Training Friday at Fort Benning and is in Airborne Training now, then after a million rumors and a few false starts, we have found out that he will be stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.
He told me that an older man bought his supper at a Bar-B-Que joint there in Columbus and when he told the gentleman that he didn't have to, the man replied "You didn't have to volunteer, during a time of war, to go and fight for our Country either, but you did, so I AM paying for your meal!" I thought "Wow......we have some awesome people here in America!"
I think that young men like our Jake, Dean's Trae, and all of the other young men and young women who have volunteered to put themselves in harm's way to protect the Country and the families that they love should be praised and thanked every time we see them, talk to them, or meet up with them at the local Bar-B-Que joint.....
It takes special people to be willing to go through the rigors of physical extremes that they endure, not to mention the home sickness that they go through..but they do it anyway...... That says something right there.....
I am hopping off of my soapbox now...... Here is a couple of pix of Jake...... in another three weeks he will have a different color Beret and an Airborne patch on his uniform....... He and his wife, Danielle, will also be having a little baby girl named Star the third week of June.
