I joined about 2 years ago, and in that time I've mostly just read, looked at pictures and videos and generally just learned a lot about the east coasts version of a sand rail. Ive got to say I'm very impressed with the way these buggies perform. Some of the out of the box thinking some of you guys come up with like the chain drive buggies are truly incredible.

I have a couple different bugggies, a 59 glitterbug, and the one shown here. This buggy started life as your typical sand rail with the desert bracing kit and fiberglass body kit. In the 13 years ive owned it, its gone through a lot of little changes and its mostly a trail buggy now and almost never goes in the sand any more. Currently I'm in the process of making it street legal. Its a Chenowth 2rl chassis built some time in the 80's and Im only the second owner of it. The transmission is a 68 swing axle which works ok for where I go with it. I do have most of the parts to convert to Irs some day, but for now it'll stay swing axle. The engine is a 1600 and I'm running with a progressive which works great for what I do.
Its no powerhouse, but I built it mostly for long distance desert /mointain travel, and its never let me down.

Welcome and nice buggy. Judging by all the stuff packed on it, looks like you put some miles on it.

Nice looking buggy.. I would agree, that buggy looks like it is built to go the distance.. Big Power is a lot of fun but I a reliable buggy will get you back home.

Thanks for posting

Welcome aboard. I also agree nice buggy. How are those front fenders mounted? Any more close up photos of them?

Thanks guys.
Here's a couple pictures of how the fenders are mounted. I do put a lot of miles on it and those were one of the things I wanted to add. I'm in the process of making it street legal now. They come off by removing the nut on the upper shock bolt and one bolt at the bottom. The rears are very similarly mounted. For serious off road driving I'd probably remove them so they don't get torn off, but for street driving up here there a requirement. The round bar might not seem like it'd be very stout, but they'll hold my weight so I figure that's strong enough. The can was my spacer for setting the finished height off of the tires once I had it set where I wanted them. It turned out to be just the right size. There's actually a bolt that goes through the bottom tube that wasn't in at the time I took those pictures. Ive since finished the welding and painted it all.
I have a second smaller rack that I put on when I take it camping. Its great for light weight stuff and just clamps on with a few muffler and hose clamps.

Thanks. That is what I was looking for. If I get fenders I believe my better half would enjoy riding more. Mine is street legal also but you don't need fenders here.

I sure have enjoyed mine more especially since adding the front ones. Its pretty amazing the amount of stuff they'll catch that used to end up hitting me. I know my wife sure likes it a lot more now that it has them.
