hey all new guy here to both woodsbuggy and buggys. only thing i know about buggys are they look super fun.
ive been riding dirtbikes since i was 4. I now have three kids and a wife that i tote along to go riding my oldest rides but wife and youngest 2 dont. my plan is to build a buggy so they can have fun too. I recently bought a 70 bug and stripped it for parts (1600 dp, ball joint, irs, autostick) im soon to order a berrien cruiser knockdown kit. I know with this package im not going to be doing anything crazy but is the 1600 and auto stick going to be able to get four (maybe five) people down the trails?

3rib would be the way to go. Stronger, lower geared. Able to pull a load, even though your not going to go crazy, 3 rib is the way to go. Even if you stay with car joints on trailing arms.

Welcome to the site. I think you will find that most people here started on dirt bikes and then migrated to buggy's for one reason or another. Some for a safer ride and others to include the family. No matter the reason, buggy's are a lot of fun.

A 1600 will be fine for the trails but you will need some more power if you want to start going up hills or running bigger tires.

As for the tranny, a 3 rib with 31 inch tires is a great set-up

I should also mention that there are a lot of great buggies for sale much cheaper than you can build one. I am not sure if starting from scratch is the best approach. Here is the buggy I would buy if I was just starting.
