Post subject:  Choosing a fuel cell

I don't want to get upside down and have fuel leaking, espesially on me. So I'm trying to decide on type of fuel cell to get, with rollover valve. There are blater style and foam filled. I understand that the foam will break down in a couple years and I guess if you don't catch that in time filters will. Thing is I'd like to have a fuel guage and not pull a Hommer and runnout of fuel in the middle of nowhere, dooh! :x I want about a 20 gal. tank. Any recomendations.Thank's, Dave W.

First thing you need to know, don't get anything that has the flush style lid. They allow water to leak in and gas to leak out. Get the raised lid type with the D ring cap it also eliminates any dirt getting into the tank. The next item is the foam. It dosen't break down, or should I say the one cell I have is at least 10 years old, the foam is as it was when I put it in. As far as bladder type cells, they are expencive but the best always costs more. Depending on where you plan on installing it and how well it's protected, a poly cell will work just fine. I run two 5 gal cells, running out of gas is real hard to do. (I did it once) Turn on one untill it runs out, then you have half a tank left.

Thanks. That's still a coin toss decision then, or # of coins ($) I guess. Location over trany should be safe, sort of standard spot. Any other info on cells? Thank's Dave W.

I bought a 17 gal fuel cell from summit. Has rollover valve, feed port and return port. Also included sending unit for gauge. Mine is upright and only 7 inches thick. Summit has cells in many shapes and sizes.Image

Thanks, I'll look at thier web site. Just wondering what kind of mileage or hours do you get from a 17 gal tank?

I ride all weekend on 8 gal, somewhere around 60 trail mile. But you'll need a 2.2 Subaru to do that.

I did n't post it before, cause I know no 2 buggies will get the same milage. I have a 2276 cc being assembled. Scat c-25 cam ( may be lite but with the rockers)and 1.25/1 ratio rockers. So probably only good for 5500, maybe 6,000 RPM. I've got modified dual Kadrons, and a bunch of other crap. So I expect good mid-range performance once done. Should be tourquie!

I'm with you TW. Mine is street leagle also, and it sucks to have limited range. Plus I really want a fuel gage.

Be careful when mounting those RCI aluminum tanks, i welded tabs on bottom of mine and mounted to the frame and i ended up getting bad cracks in the welds, partly cuz RCIs welds were thin, but also from chassis flex . i ended up getting rubber isolators and that fixed it right up.
Also the RCI sending unit i received was a POS, it will is not accurate at all.
