As long as it's DOT approved and a waiver is signed.

is there a race anywhere where a skull cap is legal.....unless it was in the 70's.....hell we race lawn mowers round here and have to have a full face for that.

but if your going on DOT then ok. Around here it has to be DOT95 or snell

If we insist on full face we might as well insist on eye protection too. If we go further than DOT we should look into neck bracing. I suppose we should encourage as much protection as feasible but not mandate more than minimal.

What's the complaint Curt?

They can't see as well?
They can't hear the engine?

They need to see the end result of someone getting their face bashed in from wearing a bicyle helmet
in a non-bicycle incident.

No one ever said "I looked stupid when my helmet hit the ground/tree/roll bar/rock."

You are running this show, you make the rules as you see fit.
Full face and neck collars should be the rule rather than the exception IMHO.

I don't like a full face helmet but I wouldn't want to wear a skull cap either. Just a plain open faced motorcycle helmet is all that I have ever worn for anything. I don't like a full faced because it does block my vision quite a bit. I don't have a dog in this hunt because I don't have my motor ready just yet, just throwing out why I don't like them.

You're the promoter, you make the rules. 8)

i would only use a motocross helmet no o ther full face street bike one r to much weight it could really do damage to your neck if u start rolling unless u got a neck collar to stop head movement

Number one complaint is they can't see with a full face and number two would be they don't have one and don't want to buy one just to be able to enter.

Curt

Nearly every sanctioning body in the world requires a full face helmet.
All of those competitors can see.
People with $15 heads wear $15 helmets.

Buy a couple decent loaner helmets and take it out of the purse.

I say allow the open face. Some who dont have one already are gonna spend enough money just getting there. I got a fullface but dont like it because I cant hear my motor as well as I like to out of it, but I use it because I know its the safest.

if you don't think you can climb it i can see where you might want to be able to see to back off a little bit better, but it don't block your vision that bad.at least mine don't.are you wearing it all day or just when you hit the climb? if your strapped in you shouldn't hit your face on anything, maybe dot approved anything would be just fine if you already own it. but it's your rodeo we'll do what ever you set forth in the rules.

If you make helmets mandatory (DOT), which they should be for any motor vehicle competition, a neck roll should be as well. One should not be used without the other and for the $30 or $40 it's cheap insurance. If your not used to having a helmet on, the extra weight expecially in a roll-over, could really mess you up. I won't wear a helmet without one.

I look at it like this, if you don't like the rules then don't play the game. It's that simple. You're doing it for our own good. Besides, the helmet I used was light, cheap and easy to see out of. http://simpsonraceproducts.com/products ... 6994&sort=

Agreed! Standardize the rules and tell people to like it or lump it.

Motorcross style helment with eye protection. All the offroad racing I have ever done use this setup and it is pretty standard.

Helmets mandatory. . I race atvs and have went threw many many helmets, I pay about 150 for each one, and cant tell ya how many i have shatteredand cracked from crashing and got right back up. With out a helmet i wouldnt be typing this post, right now. So my opinion full face DOT with goggles or glasses the whole vision deal is just that it takes time to get used to, So everyone put on your helmet and goggles now and wear them at work so u will be used to them

Maybe it is because I ride with my 6 year old daughter, but we wear a helmet all the time. I also have extra helmets for my passengers. No one rides in my buggy without a helmet.

It is interesting to see so many people admit about Safety but most of the pics posted on the forum are showing drivers and passengers without helmets attempting hills as dangerous as the contest hill climb itself.

Why do people ONLY wear helmets on the Contest Hill Climb? Is it only me that happens to flip while playing around?

Just my 2 cents.

You aint bulls@#$^^n' about the stray rock protection! My son split my melon with a rock one time just settin out on a trail ride. I wore my helmet the rest of the weekend and it was a good thing I did, because another one hit my helmet right in the forehead later the same day. Kinda weird, you can ride 20 times and nothing like that happens, then it happens twice in one ride. Just goes to show you never know when you'll need it, so wearing it all the time is a very good idea.
