I just watched another madram video , a driver was knocked out and had to have staples cause he was leaking out pretty good .
I personally am looking for a nice half helmet fir me and my daughters .
Any suggestions on brands ?
Thanks
Jason

I notice a lot of the rock bouncers run ZERO padding, their roll bars are usually only a couple inches from their heads which would be the biggest DUH move guess that's the price they pay for a cool chassis?

Jason,

In my buggy, we always wear helmets. I use Motocross helmets for me and my kids. Motocross helmets work fine but they are a little heavy. For the new buggy, I am thinking about upgrading our helmets to RAZOR helmets. They are much lighter and easier on the kids during bumps.

This is a topic with lots of variables.this is my views on it.I personally would not put a full dot helmet on a child that's not been riding motorcycles or atvs for sometime and has been use to having extra weight on their necks and strap them in a four or five point harness on a buggy.it's a touchy subject but IMO a heavy dot approved helmet is for motorcycles and atvs something you are being ejected off for impact purposes.when you are fully strapped in and have a heavy helmet I feel like whiplash and neck injurys increase due to the extra strain put on you from the helmet weight.and with children who are not use to this weight are more than likely going to be at a bigger risk IMO.they make some really nice lightweight helmets that are not dot approved but IMO are better suited for what we are using them for.pit crew helmets from Simpson is one and now helmets designed for off road use are being made.it's a life changing decision both ways when choosing a helmet so if you choose to wear one choose the correct one for your intentions.think of an apple on a pencil.lot of force to weight ratio on a strapped in person.jmo. ive been looking at mountain bike helmets. there very light weight and i think they could deflect the cooler or battery flying at your face.

Chad,
I completely agree. The motorcross helmets we use are too heavy. That is why I want to go to a lighter helmet.

I have one of those WW1 looking helmets that Willie picked up for me. Nice and light, but would prefer a full face version.

I think helmets for razors would be my choice for my son. I personally have not worn one since I was like 10. I build my chassis with a wide roof and make the roomy so my Mellon isn't to close to any bars. If I were to start seriously hill climbing I would defiantly wear one myself. I just don't see the need for me when riding trails but that is my opinion.

I agree with what is being said .
The full Dirtbike/ quad helmet is going to be uncomfortable during summer heat and weight . The razor helmet look nice and lite .
I really like the look of some of those helmets the rock bouncer are wearing .
They look light weight and large gaps in the helmet to breath on them hot days .
The full face helmet on a child without a neckbrace is way to much .
I remember them 5 year olds on their cobra race bikes , they would snap the gas and there heads would fly back .
I'm at the age now were I am worried about getting hurt !

I have a Simpson pit helmet, real light and excellent viability. Somehow I will find room for it on my single seater.

I wouldn't dare run anywhere near full race speed without a helmet on tbfh, seen the results before!

Sounds like you guys need to check out some BMX and Skateboard helmets. Pro-tech brand has always been good. I had a couple S-One brand (I think) that took some hard hits on my BMX bike.... And who gets hit in the face with batteries?? Oh, shit, I do.

I haven't used the helmet as yet. It is surprisingly light weight, not sure it needs a collar but I'm sure it will work with one.

It's simple... If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet.

I did buy a Simpson pit helmet but it seemed the size ran a little smaller than advertised and I sent it back. I have to admit to being cranially endowed (read gourdhead) but if your hat size is smaller than 7 5/8 this woud be the perfect helmet when used in conjunction with the Simpson neck brace for hill climbing. Still looking.

looking around and found this, its not a full face but i don't wear a full face when i am on my motorcycle.
looks light and my battery is behind me and i don't plan on getting that wild that i have cargo flying towards my face, just something to keep me from getting stitches if i do hit hard or roll it over.

i believe this is the video that was referred to as the start of this thread.kinda ugly. and i've seen worse rolls! and whos to know or say that the cage is what split him :!: a rock ledge, or a big rock or a stump sticking up at the wrong place at the wrong time could screw the best of us up  guess it comes down to how cool you wanna look or how many staples you want in your head

thaat ain't nuthin. Back in 03 late at nite after some brand new lites out of the box walmart lites went out , I rolled several times with just a lap belt and I tagged every bar about 6 times violently. I felt like someone was wearing me out with a Louisville. All I saw was blue flashes and when you would think it was over here comes another flash.$4k out of pocket just for medical co-pays that nite! I was hung upside down knocked out. I came 2 and made another mistake, I released my seatbelt. Knocked out again! Warm blood was all over my face. I could feel it flowing around my face and neck and back.Emergency room doc harped on how lucky I was. Went home with a kbillion stitches and nose stitched back. Went out to the crime scene the next day with a walking stick and saw a 2'x 1' pool of blood soaked in the dirt with a broke off alternator laying beside it.Had dizzy spells and headaches for a while. As I was going over backwards I would have gave $10k for a $10 skateboard helmet.$5k for a minnow bucket. Now how much would you pay for a fire extinguisher if your friend was trapped or knocked out ?

Has anyone done any purchases ? I'm leaning towards the axle helmets .
Only issue is my 13 year old daughter is begging me to take her when the buggy is done and I want her to be able to use a neck brace . Any suggestions ?
