About 71/2 to 8 to 1 stock |

Rebuilt one and had 120. I think the book says less than 90 will work but 60 needs attention. It's hard to lite off fuel with low compression especially if the air/fuel is escaping.Pull up a vw beetle forum under something like Type 1 compression low or something. You may get a better answer. |

Most new stock vw 1600s have 115 lbs. A good used stock 1600 should have at least 100 lbs. with no more than 10 lbs difference from one cylinder to another. When checking compression, warm the engine up first, and check valve lash to get a true reading. |
