Just scaned back 9 pages, did n't see any info. Trying to set up rocker geometry. I've built the rocker arms with 1.25-1 rockers on solid shafts and threw them on. With adjustable dummy push rod, adjusters seem to make proper contact through out lift. (I forgot to check this with the lash caps). Where it starts to get tricky. Stock rods are what, 5.34"? I've got 5.6" H-beams, thats .26" longer and custom made barrel spacers that provide .053" deck hieght. I'm thinking that it'll also need some heavy duty spacers under the rocker blocks. My brain is turning to mush trying to understand the info on set up that I've got. Ie; Bently manual, How to Hot Rod VWs and a few Hot VW's articles. Does anyone have a link to some indepth but easy to understand info? I'll be using custom cut chrm/mol rods. |

I dont know if this helps but I was taught that you adjust pushrod length & or shim the rocker stands so the rocker arm is centered on the valve stem at 50 percent lift. |

I was told a similiar thing, except it wasnt about rocker being centered, it was trying to get the valve side of the rocker arm 90 degrees with the valve stem at 50% lift. |

Thanks for the replies. I got the mushy gray mater to gel a bit and figuered it out my self with the cam specs. Reading your posts confirms that I did it right. I drew a cam overlap chart from the specs, (which were confirmed during assembly) figured full lift and half lift. Rotated crank to half lift, with degree wheel. Checked rocker angle to valve stem angle for 90*. Kept adjusting , adjustable push rod and adjusting screw until it was 90*. I remembered the lash cap this time. Spacers came with the swivel feet ( not using them) and that must have been what confused me. The barel spacers just mean longer push rods, which should be 285mm. About 4.5mm longer than stock, for my engine. I should probably check the lenght on either #3 or #4 to make sure its the same. It should be the same but don't want to just take it for granted. |
