okay first off sorry for bombarding your fourum with new threads so often, just tryin to make surei get everthing right the first time around.i have a few questions about what to buy. first i have a 2000cc engine, what size, and what kind of carb should i run, 1 or 2? trying to stay in the 500 doller price range. i need a distributor, heard the stock ones are junk because they use a vacume. maybe a boshe? the buggy came with a irs tranny, i upgraded to a 3 rib 002. the cv joints will fit the irs but not the 3 rib, can i buy just the cv's, if so what size do i need, and where to buy. last is i think im missing a seal on the main shaft of the tranny, the very out side, i can wiggle the shaft, cant find a diagram, and im guessinhg ebay for a cheap al. tank. what size fuel pump are you all using..? are you using a pressure regulator with that? sorry about all the questions again, andrew |

Hey Hauser, Please feel free to ask any questions and after you get answers, ask the question again. For every question below, you will get many different answers. Most of the answers will depend on what type of riding you plan on doing and how much money you have to spend. There are pros and cons to every solution and you need to keep on asking until you feel comfortable with your decision. If you only have $500 bucks for everything, you will need to be trifty to get all these parts. Here are my opinions to your questions. I am sure other will chime in and probably disagree. Q 1) As for Carbs, I run a single Weber 40 on my 2276 but almost everyone else runs duals. Mine runs fine with a single but I am sure I could get a little more power out of duals. Q2) If you cannot afford an MSD ignition, then Boshe is your best choice. Q3) I have never done this but I believe you can change only the CV joint on the tranny side and use your existing axles and CVs. If you change both CVs, you will need to new stub axles as well. Q4) I do not think you are talking about your Main Shaft, I think you are referring to the nose cone bushing on the shifting rod. This can be replaced pretty easily but they are hard to find. Check with the sponsors on this site. Q5) Check out the sponsors on this site for a gas tank or post something in the parts forum - WTB gas tank. Q6) Again, to save costs, I use the stock fuel pump. It works fine for me and I do not need to worry about regulators, fuses or relays. I am a big fan of keeping things simple. Good Luck and please feel free to keep asking questions. |

thanks mickey, i didnt no i could use a single carb on a dual port, since your enggine is a little bigger i guess i could just go your route and get a single 40. i found a 13 gallon tank on ebay for 40.00. and if i can what msd should i get. btw thanks for your help and to all others, tonight i finally got my tranny and engine mounted up, now ready for the first start up. after i buy all the goodies

I am a big fan of buying quality parts. I have had to throw away to mush EMPI crap. I will not buy anything EMPI again. Carbs are a personal thing, I like Weber Carbs. They are easy to adjust and rejet. As for the Distributor, I do not know anything about "Hot Spark". I have heard good things about Pertronix but I have never used one. The MSD Ignition will cost around $500 for the Ignition Box, Coil and Distributor. If you give Tim a call at Southern Buggies, he can hook you up with all the parts you need. I like to support my local suppliers. They are not always the cheapest, but they must make a profit too. This helps to insure that they will be there when you REALLY need them to be. |
