 Post subject: bus engine???

I have been lookin around for a motor for my buggy and i ran across a complete bus engine and automatic or stickomatic tranny for 300 bucks :) i dont plan to use the trans but i was wondering if anyone had any info .is this a good deal , r they worth fooling with,part availability,do they make good power,im lost :?

not sure,but ive herd a set of headers for a bus motor are bout 300.00 and the exhaust ports i guess is what call them makes you loose about 3 in. of clearance

i dont have the engine code but it does have dual stock carbs.i saw a exaust set up in jc whitney for around 60 or 70 bucks it has a cherry bomb type muffler on it.this may sound dumb but this is a type 4 motor isnt it :?

i also have a buddy with a buggy that has a bus motor he got it running and together mostly and parked it like a year and a half ago it also has dual stock carbs i would like to get it also and use it for parts the frame has rust holes in it and it is a very short buggy.i think 400 to 450 would get it :wink:

dont know bout that but check around the samba they should have a set of used headers

Yes they are called a type 4 engine also. If the engine has the 3 stud intake manifolds then it could be a Porsche engine :D http://www.tunacan.net/t4/index.shtml This link can help a lot. Thanks and do you have any pics?? Thanks Dave T

not trying to hijack thread but cant the type 4 engine be built to like a 2900 or so ?

if so what size crank and jugs do they use?

84 crank with 105pistons http://www.europeanmotorworks.com/vw/ty ... Parts.html this will net a 2909 :twisted: If the engine has the heater boxes on still, cut the flanges off and weld up your own exhaust. Thanks Dave T
