I am not an engine builder but I think these heads look pretty kick ass. I am not sure if the pics will show this very well but I am excited how well they turned out.. Once the new case is deburred, we can put the engine back together.

I forget who, but someone told me not to open up the exhaust ports. Something do to with more torque?

Is this true anyone?

I Hope not...

My theory is the more flow in / the more flow out...

Yes it could cause torque loss. But properly ported heads will improve greatly. Most of all porting that needs to be done is the bowl of the head. What was done there was some gasket matching. Also when doing head work it is alwys a good idea to have them put on a flow bench to make sure everything is flowing equal. A totally balanced motor (including air/fuel) is a happy motor

I had Jim from Jim's Custome VW port and polish my CB performance heads. You wouldn't believe the material he took out of the exhaust, those things are huge. They match up to my 1 5/8 headers.I get plenty of power out of those heads.

Good job the more you do the more you lern . What is your compression & a small D port or oval works good on the intake

who all or should i say what shops have this capability AND understanding to give the CUSTOMER a finished product that performs like the customer wants and not what they "think the customer should have" ,,, if any of makes any sense :?:

Don't know about up there but down here a man named Steve Sands is the best around here at porting and bench flowing
He knows how to make HP
lots of people think you need the biggest thing going on a motor .In my years I have found a good ported polished flowed set of half ass heads are better than a stock set of superflow

In my Harley days I found that's where the HP was was in the heads

not real sure where you are goin, but let me start of by saying im not knocking mm's work...hilliholic asked a ? and i replied. As far as capabilities...and shop who builds serious engines and does head work should have a flow bench. that goes along with performance also, you should be able to tell them what kind of power you want.

Fellas,

thanks for all of the support. I hope it runs as well as it looks..

As for the tools, used a bunch of grinding and polishing bits. Set up with 9.8:1 compression. However, I will still be under-carbureted. I will have a 2276 with a single weber 40.

You will never get it to run the best with one carburetor. It will always be starved for air. But you can make it run OK with just one.

your going to have fun jetting that carb to run on that motor, webers are pains in the ass when u run single carbs, and its probaly going to have to be jetted before it will run right

I dont want to hijack the thread but how did you get a Holley to function well on the hills? Ive never gotten one to work well on its side.

I completely agree. I will probably upgrade to duals next year. I just ran out of money building the engine this year. In the meantime, a little re-jetting and things should run well enough.

Although, I have to say, I run into a LOT of people who claim their buggy's ran better on a single than duals.

all i did was change the acc pump from a 50 to a 30 and do a lil changing on the cam that controls the acc pump that good rid of the dead spot once in a while if you bounce around backing down a hill it'll mess up but it will clear right up.i hear the webers and dells do the same. it trail rides good and climbs good. i never did mess with the float level yet.

I cured that problem in my Webers by running a Holley blue pump at 7psi & lowering the floats to about an inch from the bottom. Everybody said it would never work but it did. I thought you may have tried that approach.
