what is the science behind gaping spark plugs? im running a 2276 msd 6AL box with the MSD distribuator duel 45 dells 11:1 compression. im running 110 race fuel i have been runing NGK iridium IX spark plugs. now how do i figure out where to gap it at? i have been running it at .060 gap. does that sound about right? i havent really been having any trouble, i just went by what somebody was telling me to gap it, but i want to know how you figure out what the gap should be, what's the process. dave |

Quote from MSD tech "These examples are just starting points to get you going in the right direction. Every application is different and should be tested and tuned: Compression Spark Plug Gap Up to 10.5:1 .050 - .060 10.5:1 – 13.0:1 .040 - .050 Above 13.0:1 .035 - .045" |

i went ahead and set my gap to .045 i was talking to my one buddy that drag races, he seems to think that the tighter the gap, the hotter the spark is. dave |

to go along with that. the more boost the less gap. i run my blower motor at .016 with a hot magneto. |

thats good to know. i was always willing to believe that the more voltage your ignition puts out, the bigger the gap you could run. i guess i was wrong. seems like this is one of those top secrete subjects nobody talks about or they just refer back to factory settings. dave |

look at it this way. with big comp. or boost you can put the fire out at the plug. with a smaller gap your not as likely to put the flame out. |
