On 4 cylinder s 10's and those quad 4, four bangers that gm made, there is a single injector throttle body fuel injection. I am running a progressive carb on my buggy. As most of us know it is a four bolt square flange on the intake.
I am shure I can make a adapter plate, hooking up the map sensor and the o2 sensor is easy.
My question is, how does the injector know when to fire? I don't think there is a crank/cam position sensor on those motors. I could be wrong. If I could figure this out then I could probably figure out how to hook it up to a vw. Then I would have injection for about $100. It's not as good a tuned port but it's better than a carb.

I do believe that the injectors "fire" as the throttle (TPS) opens and the the mass air flow and O2 sensors tell the computer how much fuel to deliver. So it's not really a "fire" of the injector, it's more of a "flow of fuel" of the injector in this case.

I agree with DVs, that EFI is essensionly an electronic carburator with out the float bounce and Jet hassels.

It uses the pick up in the distributor. Amount of fuel is determined by throttle position sensor, map sensor and 02. These were used on 1.8 and 2.0 pontiacs and chevys also. Old sunbirds and first generation cavs. Also early 2.5 4cyl grand ams and s10. With some research it might work. These are simple compared to current stuff.

well i guess i need to figure out how to make it "pick up" on a vw dist.
They make a HEI for vw however I really don't want to spend the money on a HEI ($300) when I'm not shure if it will work.
I'm gonna look at a few electrical prints, and do a little homework over the winter. If anyone knows any more about the "pick up" let me know.

I have seen some people convert an GM HEI to fit in the VW motor. With a little machine work of course. Maybe you can convert the distributer you need to work for F.I. to fit in the VW?

Why? Id rather see ya use a multi port injection, that way you have equal fuel spray at each cyl. Early to mid cavaliers had a simple multi port with throttle body. I thought about too but decided not too. I wanted the computer from a 4.3 with a throttle body injection on each head from a sunbird.

I think you are on to something with that. That will be a very cool set up.

I figured the 4.3 settings would work on v-dub so take the injectors wires and run it to each side of the engine. I wanted to use two throttle bodies of sunbird 2.0.
