crap dats nuts..im just a lil 1915cc i was wanting more power been thinking maybe a small t25 turbo..or build a stroker with good heads..or go watercooled..i aint wanting real extreme power i dont wanna put any $ in my 6 rib so dunno lol..the 1915cc does everthing i want it to do so im not really sure y i want more guess its a guy thing lol..

You will have to put money in the tranny to hold the power. There are tons to think about if building a turbo motor. ESPECIALLY $$$$

my tranny had a 2500cc vw behind it with dual 48 idfs and the guy was pretty hard on the buggy..surely it could up to a 1915cc with a small amount of boost without blowing the tranny apart..but u never know parts wear out..bus trannys are old unless u buy em rebuilt but who can afford them prices lol..my other buddy is on his 3rd vanagon tranny once with 2275cc vw and the other time he blew third gear out with the 2.2 subaru motor..lol i bet a turbo buggy is pretty badass i was kinda thinking mild boosted levels 1915cc not so extreme..but i dont know its pretty costly either way i go..

If your tranny had a 2500 hangin off of it and it was driven hard, then it absolutely has been already rebuilt with good parts anyways, unless he ran 6" wide slicks on wet grass. Put the ponies to it!

just kidding dave, at least you have the bragging rights of hitting a tree that put you out for the rest of this year, last October all i had to brag about was hitting a cement wall on the highway while i was towing the buggy home, and it bent my front end, that put me out last year. and i hope my ribs dont put me out for the rest of this year, they still hurt from labor day

*Warning the fallowing statement is my OPINION based on my experience and setup.

TURBO WORKS LIKE CRAP IN THE WOODS UNLESS IT IS OPEN FAST STYLE TRAILS!!!

I got a 2386 fully built with a side draft and t3/t4 turbo. FK10 Cam. Stock 6 rib tranny.
I have no bottom end at all. I have trouble chug-a-luging up some small simple hills in a pack of buggies cause there is no bottom end. So the options are 1: Stall Out or 2: boost, blow the tires, scream. When climbing larger hills but still not a big deal hill I've had a lot of problems. When your under a good load its either all boost or not enof power to keep going up the hill. The front end just keeps coming up and dragging the back cage and its very unpredictable when trying to estimate when its about to kick or not. Kinda like a power band on a two stroke. But if you get it on a decent length drag strip or some more open style trails... good lord son! Hold on to your nuts! And my new favorite thing.... SAND!!! WOOOOOO doing like 65 - 70 just cruising about 5 psi in 3rd across the sand. Turboblue knows more about turbo stuff than me.

I'm sure I'm about to get a mouth load of how "my motor isn't running right" or "you can't drive it" or "your buggy is just a pos" or "you wasted your money I could build you something better for less". Yall can save all that. I've heard it in person.

I was told by a very Wise man, Turbos are uncontrollable power, which is no good for hill climbing or tight trails. But they sound like they would be cool to have if you rode in the sand, or Drag Raced.

Great post. Thanks for your honesty. I think soemtimes people just talk about how good something works because it is what they run, and they dont wanna admit that their setup is not perfect for all applications. Here's a guy who has ran turboVW in tight woods and trail riding and is willing to admit it aint the way to go for a conventional setup in the woods.
But I wouldnt try to pass him when there's room to open 'em up! ! :wink:

Yea in regular woods riding, or pack riding it sucks and could become very frustrating to a relaxed, cruiser style rider. It cams so hard until like 2500 rpms it sounds like idle jet clogged. Drag car or something. No low end power. But when the happy time comes in... woooooo babyyyyy! smack that ass! Pushing about 260 at 8psi.

Turbos can be made to run in the Woods. The trick is medium compression, small valves, small Turbo and low boost pressure. This Combo will still give you the needed low end. You do sacrifice a little top end with this design build however you do not need the top end in the Woods. You will have plenty of power to do the job. As Dixieboy stated his power is explosive and has no low end. It sounds like his motor is built for the street like most Turbo setups. When I built the 2332 VW for my Buggy I used 044 heads with 40 X 35 valves, a Turbo torque cam, with a T3 60 trim Turbo 9:1 compression and EFI. In my opinon and DV's experience a T3/T4 Turbo is just to big for the Woods. The power still came on hard when the T3 spooled however it was not explosive. I will say that the Turbo Subaru 2.5 I am running now has a smoother Turbo power band than the VW had and I like it's power delivery a whole lot better.

alot of good points going both ways on this one,to just bolt it to your existing motor then i would say you will not have the bottom end at all with a t3,or t4.to get low end you have to build a motor around the turbo of choice you want to run,and then you do give up a little on the top.there is a guy here that runs a turbo that spools lmost instantly.i will ask him when i see him agian what it is,but he is running a 1641 with it and it has pretty good bottom and great top end and he can let out of it on hills through the water breaks and then step in it and it is instant boost,and it makes some great power with his setup,this maybe the kind of turbo you should run if thats the way you go.chad :mrgreen:

well to start out i am not a huge turbo fan but i have friends who are and i have seen turbo setups that "looked like" they worked pretty good in the woods and i say "looked like" because i did not drive them. however the people that i have talked to including "turbo guru" friends say that it is all in the setup and in a woodsbuggy case that the smaller the turbo the better because of faster almost instant spool up.

Yea I run a fat drag cam. And fat T3/T4 Turbo. 8:1 comp. 044 Decent sized valves but all race prepped and cut. A good bit of turbo lag. Or I'd say average turbo lag. Def. not instant! Very unpredictiable too cause how much load is on the motor makes a huge difference when the boost comes in. Thats why on hills I have a very hard time feathering the throttle. Its all or nothing boost. Ummm fuel consumption? How about 13 gallons of 115/93 oct mix in a total of hour and half ride time on the sand. I've run out of gas at wilborns 3 times this year. haha Motor puts out no black smoke, no fauled plugs (has loaded up a little bit once or twice and had to be cleared out), exhaust has a dark gray tent dust. More power = more fuel.
