ok i know this may be a stupid question but here goes anyway.

can you swap out just the cover on the oil pump with one that has the in AND out for full flow or do you have to change the entire pump?

I looked to do the same thing but the ports on the cover and the pump did not line up correctly. However, the pump was extremely easy to replace. The hardest part was pulling the timing pulley..

Just for laughs.. I will tell you what i did. I installed the new pump and ran a hose from the in to the out to see if it was working. Started the buggy and let it run for a few minutes. All of sudden, I see oil shooting across the garage. The hose came off the pump and oil was shooting across the garage... What a mess..

let me explain what happened ........ ill try to keep it short

one of my buddys ordered a long block set up for dry sump (not drilled and tapped for full flow) and it only lasted 1 weekend of riding till it started that dreaded "knocking" sound due to no. 3 rod bearing failure. he had to have his crank turned .30 to clean it back up and the rod resized. we built it back ourselves and we were trying to figure out how to run it a little till broken and change oil and filter a couple of times just to make sure theres nothing going wrong this time without using all that oil in the dry sump setup every time til hes ready to go riding and "pull the bridle off" let it rip

u come out of the pump then to ur filter and/or cooler, what ever u want first, then back to ur block where its drilled and tapped,i think u can use a regular pump with that cover but u got to put a plug in the oil hole of the pump,i think, somebody will have to help me on this

This is the CB system diagram:

This is a fullflow diagram:

I have started engines with CB dry sump pumps on my start stand w/o any issue by runniung a hose from right to left side of pump, just looping it.
Be sure to install a filter in that loop.
Fill the engine with 4 quarts or so of engine oil.
