Ive got to different oil pumps for a dry sump set up and was wondering which one would be best to run in the woods? One is a 2 stage pump and the other is a 1 stage pump.

If the pump is to replace your stock pump then you will need to run a 2 stage. You need one stage for the supply side and one scavenge stage for the return from the sump. The one on the right is a CB Performance 2 stage. I am not familiar with the one on the left. Does it also replace the stcok VW oil pump or used in conjunction with it? |

Along with the DDS dry sump oil pump the ARPM dry sump oil pump are some of the originals. ![]() DDS was owned by Dean and Ken Lowry. ARPM was owned by Ken Lowry. I have used both of their pumps in the past. I just bought a CB dry sump pump to install on my 2180 engine while I'm swapping the cam. Other inovations by Ken and Dean were the ARPM case with a dropped cam for 90 mm plus strokers and 96 mm and up cylinders. ARPM cast the original Super Flow heads designed by Dean. Dean was the first to run 9.90 in the 1/4 mile with a Bug. When he passed away he was working on a 150 mph Super Beetle for the Speed runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

I've always been told the one on the left is the way to go. Supposed to be way better than the little CB one, (more volume, scavenges better, blahblah) but we've had great service out of the CB one on Koko's motor. And I know several others that have been running it for a few years with no problems either. I got the big one on my motor and it works fine, too. It is a little harder to get it 'primed' the first time, you need to fill your lines with oil. And it requires more plumbing. Bad thing about the little ones, is just like a stock pump, they can get scarring on the face plate and loose pressure. If I had them both sittin there and assuming both are in good shape, guess I'd use the big one. I wouldnt use either of them if they came off a motor that lost a bearing or had any shrapnel in it at all. |
