Post subject:  keeping the oil cap on
I have an aftermarket oil fill extension with the plastic cap. Memorial Day weekend it fell off and I had to zip tie a rubber glove on to get by. I need to get a new cap but don’t want to waste my money on another cap if it’s just going to fall off. I was thinking I could drill it, and add a chain to it so it won’t get lost, but what is going to stop it from coming loose and just dangling there allowing dirt to get in. Will the billet cap come loose as easy as the plastic?

I've never seen anybody having problems keeping them on.. that's something new to me. Maybe your plastic cap was cracked a little bit and did'nt allow it to get as tight as it should. :?:
the billet one sure is purdy though. :wink:

I have one of the type with a plastic cap and, if anything, the cap is too hard to get off. I treat it like a oil filter and only barely tighten it, when I go to take it back off it is TIGHT! Did yours have the soft rubber gasket in it? I think that is the main thing that keeps them tight.

This is the first time it happened to me but I know several that lost them. I think the billet one will hold up better but just wanted to ask before I bought it.

Also does anyone know if the angled ones will clear the cross bar on dual 44’s.

The angled one's are the best they have came out with.Ive never had the cap come off with the plastic one's,but the angled one's allow you to put oil in without a rubber hose and a funnel.Like dude said,make sure the rubber gasket is in the cap.

i had mine fall out before while putting oil in,but not say that yours was out,if you was to chain it put it on tight then mark the cap to one side where if you off set the chian the cap couldn't twist becuase the chain would tighten put a clip on it so you could un hook the chain to take the cap off.chad :mrgreen:

i think he just really wants the pretty billit one and wants us to say the plastic ones are always falling off and they are junk that we he can justify getting with out getting in trouble lol,so ok they are junk i would much rather have the other one.lmao.chad :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Trust me I’m not into looks as much as I’m into something dependable. I might just carry a roll of duct tape and tape it on. I’m thinking about removing all the aftermarket chrome crap (tins and shroud) and put the stock stuff from my other engine with a type 4 cooler, then I could get rid of the remote oil cooler.

i had a cap from advanced auto parts that i trimmed around the edges and dremmeled it smooth and put a chain on it with the first oil filler you had posted and it worked fine for me for a while i dont know if you ever looked at jeffs 1915 that was my old motor he may have had diff luck with it and took it off but it worked great for me

my pastic cap cracked and fell of leaving the threaded part on so i bought that billet angled filler and cap and have had no further issues

I have had the plastic cap setup on two motors and never had them come off. As mentioined before they were tight remove.

I have lost like 4 or 5. I tighten them even dry sump I never take it off and they still disappear. I had to use a rubber glove Mem weekend to Brad :(

Never lost one. Almost, it was loose, but not about to come off loose.
