Mark Harney did a good write up on the Empi carbs on thesamba.com. He showed all the problems and how to correct them.

If you are willing to work on them to get them straightened out it "might" be worth it.

Me personally......I would never buy a set. Long term trouble.

put the dual empis on yesterday afternoon without any problems and only minimum work.
had 2 go up to 55 idle jets and couple of turns of the air mixture screws and it was perfect. feels like an entirely different enine.. very very encouraging after all the horror stories ive heard. lets just hope it stays this good...lol...

Jake Raby swears that with a little bit of set-up they are just fine. He has the reputation of being one the the pickiest v-dub guys in the business. i will say, his stuff works though.

I have not used the EMPI brand however everything I have heard about them was not good. Its a crap shoot to get a good set.

Glad they are working for ya. I would however get rid of those filters. You are asking for trouble. Get a set of 6" tall uni filters and cast aluminum tops and bottoms from CB Performance. Dirt will kill the carbs not to mention the engine..
