Hello Ya'll.... Have been reading for a while now and am starting my own rail... As stated before, I may ask a bunch of questions that have already been asked, so be gentile....

Starting with a standard 1600cc VW Bug: Any up front pieces of information that I may need, please feel free to post. I will be posting pics of progress in the Buggy Build section. Am wanting to build a street rail to take offroad as well. Was lookin at several different styles of frames, but the problem is that I am 6'03"... Not alot of head room. Please feel free to post AS MUCH " you need to know this " as you feel necessary. I do not want to run into the typical " Ahhh CRAP.... I wish I would have known that before I started..... "

Look forward to making some trips and meet ya'll ..

Ride Safe :D :D

Being 6'3 you going to want to go with Kirkey economy drag seats. They will sit directly on the floor, or just above, and in most frames will give you an extra 4-5 inches of head room. I myself am 6'2 and I can fit in plenty of different styles of buggies.

If you want to go with suspension seats then you are going to have to custom order a taller cage or raise it yourself. For woods/street the berrian pro 95 is a decent choice.

Thank you... I was actually looking at the Berrin Buggy Venture... Looked taller than the others, and with the seats layed back would help with head room... I had a Rebel Rail ( which is like the Classic 290 ). That was TOOO small. Here is the link to the Venture.. Did not want to go tooooo long, I like the shorter turning radius...

http://www.berrienbuggy.com/id30.htm

I was actually wanting a taller ( ground clearance ) one as well. Is it possible to order the front end with longer arms for taller ground clearance? Or am I getting into alot of money... One thing that I really would like to have for safety is the seats with the high back and support the head/neck area... It is shown in the picture of the Venture...

Thanks for the info, I am sure I will have ALOT of more questions, I hope I do not bother anyone...

Look at your engine code, if it begins with an "H" trade it off and get a better one before you start. H blocks are JUNK and will allow head studs to pull very easily, especially if you build it. Try to find a small stud case (8mm) instead of a big stud (10mm) as they are newer and made from a better alloy. A stock cooling system (shroud and oil cooler) is better than %99 of what you can buy so keep it. Full flow the block so that you can add a true oil filter instead of just running a strainer. A 2 barrel progressive carb can be made to run well on a stock motor if you have extreme patience.

Beware of any part that seems cheap, good VW parts are available but expect to pay for them.

Will check the motor as soon as possible... Am picking up the entire running VW for $400. It is a rust bucket, but runs fine. Was told that it came from Calif and the owner just had the motor rebuilt 2 years ago, so I am hoping for the best.. I looked at it, but did not know to look for the "H"... Thanks alot guys and will definately be back asking for your honest expert opinions... Can't thank ya'll enough..
