ok i put together my 1776 due to a problem with my 1835. wide open it starts missing. well i thought maybe i broke a ring so i put together the 1776. still does it. when i had it torn apart i looked for cracks in my head. checked all the valves. lashed and re-lashed and re-lashed and re-lashed the valves. i got brand new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. cleaned carbs. when i take my cap off i can twist the rotor so i know that advance isn't froze up but how far is it suppose to turn?? ive heard bad things about 009's collecting everything u don't want. i dunno i am getting ready to burn the thing. i hope its nothing internal. please guide me in the right direction

1776, c-35 cam, 009 dist, empi elec. ignition, stock coil, stock heads, stock rockers, stock pushrods, dual weber 44's

It could be carb problems or timing. What’s your timing set to at full advance? It shouldn’t be more than 32 degrees at 3500 rpm. What do you're plugs look like? I had the same problems with my 1915 and dual 44idf’s. I had to get smaller venturi’s (I think 32mm) and re-jet it to get it to run without puking from fouled plugs.

ive ran this setup before so i know i don't have to rejet the carbs. plugs look awsome. i was thinkin i would find something when i pulled them but they are all a tan color. im not sure what my timing is. i remember setting it at 28 degrees at 3k rpm. when it happend i was screaming up a hill in 2nd gear wide open as loud as she could scream. got to the top and had a beer then took off, never ran right after that. not only is my buggy ugly now but now its slow.

RE-CHECK timing.
Set it at 32 degrees at 3,000 rpm.

also try a whole new distrubtor,i have seen them go bad

i just had one do the same thing it was the pick up in that 009 runs fine on the bottom but gets a false reading at about 3500 to 4000 grand on at wfo

ok. what if my tach started acting funny. is that because the tach is junk or is something in the dist giving it a false reading.

it could all so be the tach but if it a 009 change the distrubtori had two go bad in two month

if u think it could be the tach unhook it and try it its one wire but ill put my money on the distributor

chek your intake make sure its tight that will cause it to miss may be a dead spot in the carb

Along with this idea is some intakes have a metal tube pressed into aluminum cast. At this point they may leak. I have seen JBweld put in the junction to better seal it.
